The years right after World War II were perhaps the finest season for steam on the WM. A new fast freight image, highlighted by the red and gold "fireball" logo, added a bright dash to an immaculate stable of motive power. This volume covers the WM from Hagerstown west towards Connellsville, Pennsylvania on the main line. It also takes a look at the important Elkins, West Virginia line, where coal trains powered by as many as ten locomotives stormed up the Black Fork Grade.
