Trumpeter Scale Models 5828 1/48 Mi-24A Hind-B Helicopter
Model Kit
The early-production Mil Mi-24A represents the formative stage of what would become one of the most iconic combat helicopters of the Cold War. Developed in the late 1960s by the Mil Design Bureau, the Mi-24 was conceived as a revolutionary concept: a heavily armed gunship that could also transport a squad of infantry. The “A” model—known in NATO reporting as Hind-B—featured the distinctive greenhouse-style cockpit canopy before the later tandem configuration was introduced, marking it as a true first-generation variant of the breed.
Entering service in the early 1970s, the Mi-24A reflected Soviet doctrine emphasizing speed, armor protection, and overwhelming firepower in support of mechanized ground forces. Armed with rockets, gun pods, and anti-tank missiles mounted on its stub wings, it combined the shock effect of a gunship with limited air assault capability. Though later variants would refine the concept, the Mi-24A stands as the foundation of the Hind lineage, setting the template for decades of development and export success across the Warsaw Pact and beyond.
