A member of the Revenge-class battleships, Royal Oak entered service in 1916 and saw action during the Battle of Jutland before serving with the Home Fleet in the years that followed. Her career came to a dramatic end in October 1939 when she was torpedoed by the German submarine U-47 at Scapa Flow, becoming one of the most notable early British naval losses of World War II.
