NOS (New Old Stock)

These modern box cars were designed and built in 1972 by U.S. Railway Equipment, a division of Evans Products. The cars had a 70-ton capacity and an inside length of 50'5". Their high roof gave them the maximum capacity allowed within the Plate C clearance diagram, and their 10-foot Superior doors allowed for easy loading by fork lift. Evans' Cushion-Pak underframes and adjustable DFB bulkheads protected high-value cargo like rolls of paper and fragile manufactured goods from damage. The largest single customer for these cars was the Penn Central Railroad, which leased over 1,000 cars in two classes. These were later repainted for Conrail and can still be seen today. Feature body-mounted PROTO 2000 magnetic knuckle couplers, PROTO 2000 trucks with needle-point axles, blackened metal wheels, micro-molded detail, prototypical paint schemes and sharp laser-quality printing.
