Developed by South Africa’s Atlas Aircraft Corporation during the 1980s, the Cheetah was an extensive modernization of the Dassault Mirage III, incorporating advanced avionics, aerodynamic improvements, and enhanced combat capabilities developed in response to international arms embargoes. The two-seat Cheetah D served with the South African Air Force as both an operational conversion trainer and combat-capable fighter, playing an important role during the final years of the Border War while preparing pilots for frontline service.
