During the 1970s, the Type “E” coupler with a bottom shelf was developed as the Type “SBE,” and the Type “SE” top and bottom shelf came later on. The Type “SF” and “SE” couplers were standard for tank cars in 1975 and eventually became mandatory for hazardous material cars.

Allows an easy upgrade from any G-scale Medium Offset Coupler to a "SE" Top and Bottom Shelf Medium Offset coupler. Medium Offset Raises the coupler head .200" from a centerset coupler height. The equivalent of one shank thickness.
