The Type IXC U-boat was a long-range, ocean-going German submarine used during WWII. An evolution of the earlier Type IXB, the IXC was larger and more capable, making it ideal for extended patrols in distant waters such as the South Atlantic, Caribbean, and even the Indian Ocean.

It was one of the largest German U-boat types in regular use, and many became infamous for long patrols and significant tonnage sunk.
