The JMSDF Atago (DDG-177) is a modern guided-missile destroyer of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, and the lead ship of the Atago-class — an enlarged, upgraded derivative of the earlier Kongō-class Aegis destroyers. Designed for advanced air and missile defense, she is one of Japan’s most capable surface combatants.
