The IJN Hamakaze (meaning “Beach Wind”) was a Kagerō-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy — one of Japan’s most capable and modern destroyer designs of World War II.

By 1945, she was operating in the Type Ko configuration, optimized for heavy anti-aircraft defense and reduced torpedo armament, reflecting the IJN’s desperate shift toward anti-aircraft escort duties late in the war.
