Hasegawa 30058 1/700 IJN Destroyers Momi & Wakatake 'Hyper Detail' 2 Kits

Model Ship Kit

A finely executed dual-subject release, this set captures two important transitional destroyer designs of the Imperial Japanese Navy during the interwar period, when lessons from World War I were rapidly reshaping naval architecture.

The Momi-class, laid down between 1918 and 1920, represented a mass-produced second-class destroyer intended to complement larger fleet units, serving effectively into the late 1930s before being superseded by more advanced types.

The included Wakatake variant reflects incremental refinement of the design, addressing stability shortcomings in high-speed maneuvers through subtle but meaningful hull modifications—details that will not be lost on experienced builders.

Hasegawa’s “Hyper Detail” treatment elevates the presentation with sharply molded components and dedicated photo-etched parts, allowing for a crisp rendering of early IJN destroyer fittings in 1/700 scale. With the ability to build both vessels from one box, this release offers not only a study in design evolution but also an opportunity to expand a serious Water Line collection with subjects rarely given this level of attention.
