Hasegawa 2397 1/72 Mitsubishi Ki 109 Experimental Interceptor 'Prototype No. 1'
Model Kit
Based on the nimble Ki-67 heavy bomber airframe, the Ki-109 prototype—affectionately codenamed “Hiryu”—was fitted with a massive 75 mm Type 88 anti-aircraft cannon in its nose, intended to engage high-altitude bombers from beyond the defensive envelope of their guns.
Hasegawa’s limited-edition kit faithfully recreates Prototype No. 1 of the 107th Squadron (August 1944), complete with resin and metal parts to accurately depict the cannon and fuselage modifications, and includes decals for both the original prototype and its improved 1945 version. At over 26 cm in length with a wingspan exceeding 31 cm, it offers both a rewarding build and a striking museum-piece tribute to one of Japan’s most ambitious interceptor experiments.
