The German 5cm Pak 38 was one of the Wehrmacht’s most important early-war anti-tank guns, developed to counter increasingly heavy Allied armor after the limitations of the smaller Pak 36 became apparent. Entering service in 1940, the high-velocity 50mm gun proved capable against many Soviet and Allied tanks during the middle years of World War II, and its distinctive curved gun shield gave it a unique silhouette on the battlefield.
