In August of 1942, production of the first Tiger began, and by 1944, over 1300 tanks had been manufactured. At the time, the Tiger’s 88mm gun was arguably the most robust and effective anti-tank. Allied tanks had superior mobility when facing a Tiger, forcing them to attack at the Tiger’s side or back to engage successfully. “Tigerphobia” was very real given the strength and formidability of these impressive tanks, and it is said that Russians would flee when they caught sight of a Tiger approaching. This replica in 1/72 scale faithfully shows the initial production of Sd. Kfz. 181 Pz.Kpfw. VI Ausf. E Tiger I.
