A striking example of Germany’s adaptation of armored personnel carriers for direct-fire support, the Sd.Kfz. 251/22 “Pakwagen” married the mobility of the half-track chassis with the potent 7.5cm PaK 40 anti-tank gun. Introduced in 1943, this variant provided mechanized infantry units with a mobile anti-tank platform capable of engaging Allied armor at range, while maintaining the tactical flexibility of the Sd.Kfz. 251 family. Its combination of firepower, armor, and mobility made it particularly effective in ambushes and defensive operations on both the Eastern and Western Fronts.
