It starts in 1917 and follows the railroad's steam and electric power's development to 1947.  Early diesel-electric motive power tests are discussed in detail, providing a good overview of what was going on at the Pennsy. Over 150 great photos. It provides a look at the thinking behind the choice of the various diesel models and where and how they were employed. Written using official EMD and PRR records, it tells the story as it's never been told.  There are many rare photos of early diesels included in this volume.
