The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad used its biggest and best power to conquer the mountains around Cumberland, Maryland. In numerous black & white photographs, you follow the B&O from east of the mountains to the crossing of the Alleghenies on Sand Patch grade in Pennsylvania and Seventeen Mile Grade in West Virginia.
