The Sd.Kfz.164 Nashorn was one of Germany’s most powerful tank destroyers of World War II, combining the mobility of the Panzer III/IV chassis with the devastating 8.8cm PaK 43 anti-tank gun. Originally known as the Hornisse, the vehicle was designed to counter increasingly heavily armored Allied tanks and could engage enemy armor at exceptional distances thanks to its high-velocity cannon. First seeing combat in 1943, Nashorns served primarily on the Eastern Front, where their powerful weapon allowed them to defeat even the most formidable Soviet tanks while operating from concealed positions.
