Introduced during the early years of the Cold War, the M108 was developed alongside the M109 to provide highly mobile artillery support for U.S. Army armored and mechanized units. Armed with a rapid-firing 105mm/L30 howitzer, the M108 saw combat service during the Vietnam War before eventually being replaced by the more powerful 155mm-armed M109.
