The M18 Hellcat was the fastest armored fighting vehicle ever adopted by the U.S. Army during World War II, combining exceptional mobility with the powerful 76mm M1 gun to hunt and destroy enemy armor. Designed around the tank destroyer doctrine of speed, ambush tactics, and maneuverability, the Hellcat could reach impressive battlefield speeds thanks to its lightweight construction and powerful engine. Entering combat in 1944, it served with distinction in Europe, where its open-top turret and high mobility allowed crews to rapidly reposition and engage German tanks.
