ACADEMY 13286 1/35 Merkava Mk.IID Tank
Model Tank Kit
Following the "Six-Day War" Israel's leader, General Israel Tal, determined that it was time for Israel to have an indigenous and sophisticated main battle tank. Having scrapped together vehicles from discarded Shermans and Centurions, the time arrived for Israel to build their tanks. Within nine years of development, the Merkava was born. Manned by four and powered by a Teledyne Continental AVDS-1790 V12 Diesel engine, it was an impressive piece of machinery. Equipped with a 105mm main gun, a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun, and two extra LMG's for the commander and loader's hatch, the vehicle was superb at taking down low-flying aircraft and facing off in close combat, especially recently in the Lebanon conflict facing down Soviet T-62s. This kit with over 240 plastic parts faithfully recreates the Merkava Mk.IID with modular composite armor, in 1/35 scale.
