The F-14D was the pinnacle of the Tomcat series, featuring upgraded engines, advanced avionics, and improved radar and weapons systems, including compatibility with the AIM-54 Phoenix missile. Operating well into the 2000s, it served as both a fleet defense interceptor and precision strike platform. The “Bounty Hunters” of VF-2 are one of the Navy’s most celebrated squadrons, known for their distinctive tail markings and long operational history, which included deployments aboard aircraft carriers worldwide.
