The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XIV was one of the best, if not the best, British fighter of WWII. It was developed to take advantage of the new Rolls Royce Griffon engine, around 80 mph faster than the Merlin engine used in the earlier versions. Due to its great speed, it was one of the natural choices to confront German V1 jet flying bombs.
