From the mid-1980s, the vehicle became the main transport chassis in the Soviet Army and the primary medium-class vehicle for mounting various types of superstructures and equipment. Common variants included those with KUNG bodies – enclosed cabins for mounting special equipment and transporting personnel. One such body type was the K4320D.
