The P-40 served with the British in North Africa and the Middle East early in WWII. Although the aircraft lacked a 2-speed supercharged engine compared to Germany’s fighters at the time, the P-40 proved itself a mighty low-altitude fighter. The production life of the P-40 resulted in nearly 12,000 aircraft.
